Case Study on 'Mojo'

MOJO is the magazine that I have chosen to study due to the similarities in target audience, price and frequency to my magazine.

This is the latest cover of Mojo Magazine (January 2010) and the layout is typical most Mojo covers. For example, there is the large title with a main image of Jimmy Page. Along each side, there are small captions of texts which let the audience know what is inside. Names of people and bands are bigger than other parts of texts which suggests the magazine is saying "Look who we have" and gives it a sense of exclusivity. The main image is black and white - mojo uses black and white main images a lot - which gives the front cover a sense of mystery and almost an air of class. There are several article titles surrounding the main image, inferring that the other articles work around the main one, and almost tells the audience to buy the magazine for the amazing articles inside. The free CD will appeal to the audience, and there is not much description about the CD straight away, which suggests the magazine is trying to make itself exlusive to the audience it is aimed at. There is very little dead space in this magazine cover, and this suggests that inside there is nothing boring, and everything is interesting and well worth buying.
